Giving Back to Our Community

ShankerValleau gives back to our community in two important ways: by volunteering our financial expertise to a number of worthy organizations and by encouraging our client's charitable giving by offering investment management services for Donor Advised Funds at no charge.

Wilmette Baseball Association

Larry has been on the Board for this community baseball organization since 2000.  He currently serves as the Treasurer. In addition to contributing his financial expertise, our office has handled all accounting and tax responsibilities on a pro bono basis for one of the largest programs of its kind on the North Shore of Chicago.

Lakeside Singers

John has been on the Board of this Evanston-based non-profit choral group since 2002.  He currently serves as President. The Lakeside Singers are professionals dedicated to bridging the worlds of classical and contemporary choral music. For twenty years, the group has been entertaining Chicagoland audiences.  Recent performances include concerts at Ravinia with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra.

Piven Theatre Workshop

John has been on the Board of this Evanston-based non-profit organization since 2011.  For over forty years the Workshop has maintained a nationally-acclaimed actors training center to help thousands of students find their unique, creative voice.

Coat Angels

John has been on the Board of this non-profit since 2013. He currently serves as Treasurer. The organization’s mission is to provide coats, fleeces and hats to some of the neediest children in Chicago. The volunteers personally deliver clothing to over 4,500 of children each year.

North Shore Art League

Larry and Brian are currently managing (on a no fee basis) the endowment fund for this Winnetka-based non-profit arts organization that provides fulfillment to artists of all ages and experience.

Boy Scouts of America

Brian has been appointed to serve the Order of the Arrow (Scouting’s National Honor Society) as the Lodge Adviser for Takhone Lodge. The lodge’s 2,500 members span across the Chicago metro area and northwest Indiana. The main function of this youth run organization is to promote camping, provide services, and develop future leaders.

Morrison-Shearer Foundation

Brian serves as the Treasurer for this Northbrook based non-profit foundation whose mission is to preserve and exhibit the works and documentary materials relating to the careers of photographer Helen Balfour Morrison and dancer-choreographer Sybil Shearer. Much of their works are now with the Newberry Library and the board is working to build a new dance studio at the Ragdale Foundation in Lake Forest to be used as an artist’s retreat.

To further encourage our clients’ charitable giving, ShankerValleau offers our investment management services for Donor Advised Funds at no charge.
